Sophie Noel is a singer and songwriter based in Dawson City, Yukon, making contemporary dream-folk under the midnight sun. With a keen ear for melody, a unique sense of instrumentation and composition, and self-reflective and emotionally sharp lyricism, Noel has developed a voice that is at once charming and melancholy. Lyrically, she channels the introspection of Angel Olsen, and borrows the expressivity and flexibility of indie rock in the vein of Cate Le Bon. Intermingled with these contemporary influences are Americana and jazz inflections noticeable in the lilt of her voice and Gillian Welch-worthy harmonies. Her first collection of songs, Sisterly EP, was released independently in 2019 and “[laid] the foundations of a love that will last” (Cups n Cakes Network). Her next album, supported by the Yukon Government, FACTOR, and Canada Council for the Arts, is due for release in 2022.
